Chapel Hill students participated in an internship program offered by Lenovo at Research Triangle Park over the summer to better advance their computer engineering skills.
The internship was managed by the Chapel Hill High School Academy of Information Technology (AOIT).
This is the second year that AOIT has given Chapel Hill students Lenovo Internships.
To be qualified for the internship, students had to complete a second level Computer Engineering and/or Network Engineering course.
During the internship, each student worked with a different manager, specializing in a different part of Lenovo. Most students worked around five weeks, for up to 40 hours every week.
Seniors Erik Amico, Adrian Bruno, Tim Childers and Ben Rampel were selected to take part in the program.
The interns had a very busy schedule and learned a lot about how Information Technology (IT) worked.
“I did a lot of data manipulation and manual data moving for company-wide IT tickets,” Bruno said. “In the Morrisville office, I did general IT works like formatting laptops, and [I] participated in IT workshops [a table in the main lobby where people can bring their laptops to be fixed].”
Bruno said the internship may prepare him for the working world.
“I learned how to act in a professional environment,” Bruno said. “I learned a lot about project management. I learned about how IT is structured in large corporations and how they keep everything running, and how commonly people have issues with their computers (it’s very often).”
Bruno recommends the internship to anyone looking to learn more about IT and those who would like “something substantial” on their college application or resume.
