Graduation for the Chapel Hill High School class of 2023 will begin at 4 p.m. at the Dean Smith Center on Saturday, June 10, the district announced last week.
Carrboro High School’s ceremony will begin at 9 a.m., and East Chapel Hill High School’s will begin at 12:30 p.m.
This year’s graduation ceremony will begin later in the day than in years prior.
Last year, Chapel Hill High School graduation began at 1 p.m., and the district suggested attendees wear masks to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. The district has not yet recommended mask use for this year’s ceremony.
Principal Charles Blanchard, who on February 2 announced that he will retire on April 1, stated that he intends to be at the ceremony to hand out diplomas.
Seniors largely said they would prefer for the ceremony to start earlier in the day, as in years past.
“I can’t believe [graduation| is at four,” senior Kevin Runkle said. “I want to be partying before that.”
Senior Allen Tian added that he “would rather [the ceremony] be at twelve.”
