Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools hired Andy Jenks as Chief Communications Officer in September 2021, following his tenure in the same role at Henrico County Public Schools in Virginia, where he worked with current superintendent Nyah Hamlett.

Since becoming the spokesperson for the district, the former television news anchor and reporter has invigorated the district’s Instagram profile, highlighting administrative, student and faculty and staff achievements, while also drawing a flurry of student comments when making announcements about inclement weather, school closings and delays.

Proconian staff writer Carly Sciborski sat down to ask Jenks about his role in the district, his rap lyrics, and the pressures that come with social media.
