The school’s campus next year will be short 110 parking spaces and will only accommodate senior parking as construction on the new building continues.
Additionally, the selection process for spots will happen earlier than in previous years. Rising seniors have until May 3 to submit parking forms in order for administration to determine the demand for spots.
It is undetermined whether spots will be offered to all seniors who apply or if a random lottery will be necessary. The decision about a lottery will not be made until August 1, after administrators spend the summer months discussing the exact number of spots available with architects.
In his email announcing the news, Principal Charles Blanchard thanked “everyone for [their] patience and flexibility during this unique time in our school’s history.”
Sophomore Sarah Xu was disappointed to learn she would not be offered a parking space next year.
“I’m kind of annoyed [about parking] because it was something I was looking forward to, especially with sports,” she said. “I have a friend close by, and she’s letting me park in her spot, so I’ll still have to walk five or ten minutes. It’s not ideal.”
Several juniors were also unhappy with the possibility of a lottery.
“I was counting on having a parking spot, so I could have a free period or do an internship,” junior Angel Koshy said, “but now I don’t know. I guess if [a lottery] doesn’t work out for me, I’ll just have to work with it.”
Students submitting interest forms before May 3 are not required to pay or verify their completion of 25 service learning hours until spaces are assigned in August.
All forms submitted before the May 3 deadline will be considered equally, and late submissions will be placed on a wait list.
