The Sports for Everyone club—a club new to the school this year—held a sports equipment drive from February 21-25, collecting new or gently used sporting goods as donations.

The drive accepted gear from all sports such as baseball and basketball, while also collecting donations that can be used in playground activities.

The goal of the drive was to provide equipment for underprivileged children.

“Our mission was to allow kids who are less fortunate and cannot afford sports equipment a chance to play,” Sports for Everyone president Jesse Lowinger said.

Lowinger, a sophomore, said the equipment drive was a success.

“We are incredibly happy with the results of the drive,” he said. “We collected 52 different pieces of sports equipment that will contribute to underprivileged communities in a major way.”

Social studies teacher Aaron Wark, the faculty advisor for the Sports for Everyone, said the club hopes to do similar drives in the future.

“[Sports for Everyone] is a new club this year, and it was great to see students coming together to organize … and implement the drive,” Wark said. “The plan is to organize more drives in the future.”

All donations from the drive go toward Leveling the Playing Field, a charity out of Washington D.C. The 52 sporting items obtained at the drive will be dropped off at a Leveling the Playing Field storage unit in Maryland.

According to the organization’s website, donations are given to “community groups, youth leagues and schools serving low-income communities.”

“After taking inventory of the donations, [Leveling the Playing Field] will then distribute the equipment to kids in need,” Lowinger said. “Everything donated will be impactful in changing the lives of kids around the nation.”
