Students in the Exceptional Education department recently held a Valentine’s Day sale, offering handmade cards, roses and balloons in order to raise funds for a field trip later in the year.
The fundraiser was held from January 28-February 11 at lunch in the front lobby and in the Tiger Cafe. The Valentine’s Day gifts were two dollars each.
“The funds will help us go on field trips, where the kids can go with their classmates to a school event that normally they couldn’t attend,” special services teacher Maggie Filer said.
The Valentine’s Day sale allowed students to get to know some new faces.
“I liked selling things and showing people the flyer because I got to talk to new people,” junior Nick Harris said.
His fellow student, senior R.J. Young, said he liked the creative process of making the Valentine’s Day cards.
“I liked the mess we made on the table when we made the cards,” Young said.
Faculty member and golf coach Dock Ragland said the fundraiser made it convenient for him to purchase Valentine’s Day gifts for his spouse.
“I got a bouquet of flowers and balloons for my wife. It’s a lot easier than going to the store,” Ragland said.
Last year, students went to the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro.
“It was fun, and we got to the gift shop afterwards,” Harris said.
This year’s class will visit different museums in Raleigh toward the end of the year.
