Fall Sports Briefs

Football

Danny Alexander and Peyton McGurk

The varsity football team lost to Southern High School last Friday, bringing their record to 1-8. The team is led by captains Bradley Kenyon, Alec Stough, Zeus Street and Javon Wells. The team concludes the season against Orange High School on Friday, November 3.

Men’s Soccer

Noah Cohen-Vogel and Meghan Morton

The men’s varsity soccer team finished the regular season with a 18-4-1 record and a victory in the Big Eight Conference Championship. Senior captains Matthew Arnold, Justin Mecham and Robert Pierrard lead the team. They will face Asheboro in the second round of the state playoffs on Friday, November 3.

Volleyball

Evangeline Bolles-Rioux

Women’s volleyball head coach Ross Fields led the team to a 25-6 season record in his second year at the helm. Senior co-captains Bailey Rose and Nadiya Farrington led the Lady Tigers to a perfect 14-0 conference record. Sophomore Kaya Merkler is second in the conference in kills (340) and third in hitting percentage (.353). The team faces North Iredell in the 3A State Championship match on Saturday.

Women’s Golf

Max Ring and Caroline Straubel

The women’s golf team lost in the Big Eight conference championship, after receiving fifth place during the Chapel Hill Country Club match and third place at The Chapel Ridge Golf Course in Pittsboro. Senior captain, Anne Crabill averages 51.9 strokes for nine holes and advanced to the state championship. Sophomore Anna Pridgen averages 52.8 strokes for nine holes.

Men’s Cross Country

The men’s cross country team came in first in the Big Eight conference championships, with the top eight spots in the race filled by Chapel Hill runners. The team’s best runners solidified the win, with senior captain Ryan Combs coming in first with a time of 15:38, and seniors Nat Romaine and Silas Buckner coming in second and third, respectively. All three finished with personal-record breaking times. Freshman Ben Hawley, ranked fastest freshman in the state, placed fourth. The team prepares for the State Championships this Saturday.

Women’s Cross Country

Emma Mann

Senior captain Katherine Dokholyan broke 18 minutes on the 5k home course. Many of the girls beat their personal records in the Greensboro race. Senior captains Gillian Weeks, Lena Cohen, Madi Marvin, and Madeleine Mount-Cors also carried the team throughout the season, eventually winning the Mideast Regional Championship. The season continues as varsity members train for the State Championships this Saturday.
